7-Day Machame Route Kilimanjaro Climb
Do you have any question or want a custom itinerary?
OVERVIEW
The Machame Route, known as the "Whiskey Route," offers Kilimanjaro's most scenic ascent through five distinct ecological zones—from rainforest through moorland, alpine desert, and arctic summit glaciers. The 7-day itinerary follows "climb high, sleep low" principles for excellent acclimatisation, significantly improving summit success rates (70–85%) compared to shorter climbs.
This route is moderately strenuous with steep sections but doesn't require technical climbing skills. The extra acclimatisation day versus 6-day variants reduces altitude sickness risk and improves summit enjoyment. Expect to cover 62 kilometres over 6 trekking days with maximum altitude gain of 1,200m on summit day.
Heritage Rain provides experienced mountain guides certified in altitude sickness recognition and wilderness first aid, quality camping equipment including spacious tents and thick sleeping mats, nutritious meals prepared by trained mountain chefs, and porter teams paid according to KPAP fair wage standards.
