Day Mount Meru Trek
Do you have any question or want a custom itinerary?
OVERVIEW
Mount Meru (4,566m), Tanzania's second-highest peak and Africa's fifth-highest, offers exceptional standalone trekking experience or ideal Kilimanjaro acclimatisation. Located in Arusha National Park, the trek combines high-altitude mountaineering with wildlife viewing—armed rangers accompany groups through zones inhabited by buffalo, elephants, giraffes, and various antelope species.
The 4-day/3-night itinerary provides excellent acclimatisation profile with summit altitude sufficient to prepare for Kilimanjaro whilst being achievable for moderately fit trekkers. Scenery is stunning: montane forest, heath, moorland, and dramatic volcanic crater views. Summit day involves thrilling ridge traverse with 1,000m drops on both sides.
Mount Meru serves multiple purposes: standalone adventure for those with limited time or budget, acclimatisation preparation for subsequent Kilimanjaro climbs, or post-Kilimanjaro challenge for those wanting additional trekking. Park fees are significantly lower than Kilimanjaro, making this excellent value.
